Mumbai: Forced into physical liaison, minor girl attempts suicide

A 15-year-old girl, studying in the Std X, attempted suicide on May 31, as she was being forced into a physical relationship. The Andheri police arrested two cousins on Tuesday for allegedly committing the offence - Sagar Salvi (22), and a 16-year-old who has not been identified. Both accused are Andheri residents.

On May 31 at 10 pm, the girl started vomiting. The parents realised that their daughter had consumed phenol and rushed her to the nearest hospital, and the teenager narrated the story before she was admitted. The girl had met Salvi through the 16-year-old friend.

Once, Salvi had called the girl over to his place and started touching her inappropriately. The girl complained to her teenaged friend since Salvi is his cousin. But the 16-year-old also wanted a physical relationship with her, threatening the girl that he would distribute a video clip of the survivor talking to Salvi.

An inspector from Andheri police station said, “Both the accused demanded a physical relationship from the survivor and were constantly threatening her, because of which the minor thought of taking this extreme step. After she was admitted to the hospital, a police team visited her and recorded the statement. Both the accused were arrested on Tuesday (June 2).”
