A 56-year-old man who was unable to walk without support even after three surgeries recently underwent a hip replacement surgery and is finally able to move around on his own.

Fadhil Fahad Ibrahim, an Iraqi farmer, was treated at Global Hospital in Parel.

For the last three years, Ibrahim wheelchair-bound, as his left leg was 3.5 inches shorter than the other. The problem started after he suffered a fracture, which got infected after he underwent a surgery in Iraq. He then underwent two more surgeries at Saudi Arabia, but it did not help.

Dr Shridhar Archik, orthopaedic surgeon at Global Hospital conducted a hip replacement surgery on Ibrahim in which, both the damaged surfaces of the hip joint were replaced with prosthetic substitutes. "This can help eliminate pain and improves the functioning and quality of life of the patient. After the surgery, the patient gained the entire 3.5 inches of lost length and could walk without any difficulty. His surgery was unique as he has also lost most of his bone around the hip and had no supporting muscles," said Dr Archik.

Ibrahim said he had started giving up after three surgeries, but he is now looking forward to living his life.
