The incident took place at around 1 am on Sunday. As the train passed Chunabhatti station, the motorman Suryakant Patil and guard Bablu Kumar noticed a person lying injured by the side of the tracks. Patil stopped the train and told Kumar to put the injured man on the train.
"I saw the man lying in the darkness next to the tracks and halted the train immediately. I then called up the guard who with the help of a few passengers put the injured person on the train till Kurla station," Patil told mid-day. "When we stopped the train, the victim was moving. So I requested some of the passengers to help me put him on the train and alerted the station staff at Kurla," guard Bablu Kumar said. When the train reached Kurla, the station master and Government Railway Police (GRP) team were already waiting to take the injured man to Sion Hospital. "I am hoping that Parab survives," Kumar added.
Central Railway chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said the alertness of the motorman and guard saved Parab's life. "The crew will be rewarded suitably for alertness and prompt help," he added.
