The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is going to play jingles inside Western Railway (WR) local trains in order to create awareness about diabetes. Besides the WR, three trains on the Central Railway (CR) track will display posters to educate people about diabetes. The total cost of the project is estimated to be about Rs. 16 lakhs.

Lifestyle disease like diabetes and hypertension is taking a toll on the health of Mumbaikars. Burger, pizza, wafers, alcohol and junk food increase the sugar level in the blood very rapidly. Pancrease, the gland responsible for creatinsulinne, bears the burden of producing large amounts of insulin. Over a period of time, the capacity of the pancreas decreases. The blood sugar level increases as there isn't enough amount of insulin and it affects the functioning of several body parts. Lifestyle modification including regular exercises can help avoid the condition. The BMC is going to produce jingles in order to create awareness about diabetes and its effects on the human body.

As per the proposal submitted before the standing committee meeting, the BMC will give Rs 10.32 lakhs to the Western Railway to plan a 30-second jingle. The jingle will be played in 12 local trains on the Western line. The BMC will also display awareness posters inside three local trains on the Central line at the cost of Rs 5.80 lakhs.
