MPCC President Manikrao Thakre said Sawant has been suspended for 'anti-party' activities. Sawant levelled baseless allegations against party leaders, Thakre said.
On Monday, Sawant wrote a strongly worded letter to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, accusing "certain leaders" of misleading the CM and questioning the election preparation and strategy of the party. He raised questions on offering "winnable" seats to the ally NCP and even raised a finger on the process of selection of candidates. He also aired his discontent in the media.
"Every party worker has the right to express his views at an appropriate forum, damaging prospects of the party at a time when the poll process has begun will not be tolerated," MRCC spokesperson Kishor Joshi said.
Sawant said he had raised "points which are in the party's interest" and was prepared to face any action.
