Two boys, aged 10 and 11, have been booked by the police for kidnapping a five-year-old in Malad (West). The motive of the kidnapping is not yet clear, but the police have registered a case based on the statement of the boy’s mother and are questioning them.

“We have registered a case under section 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 511 (punishment for attempting to commit an offence) and 34 (criminal act by several persons) of the IPC, but have not made any arrests. This is a serious accusation against the children and we cannot arrest them without an investigation,” said senior inspector Sudhir Mahadik, Malad police station.

Police said the two boys went to pick up the boy from school, but a teacher, who became suspicious, did not allow them to take the boy away. When the boy’s mother arrived, she caught one of the boys from the spot while the other managed to flee.
The incident took place on Friday evening at St Mary’s School, Malad (West). According to police sources, the two boys went to the school and posed as the boy’s brothers. They were moving towards the gate to pick him up when the teacher stopped them and asked them who they were. The boys said they were the boy’s brothers.

The teacher, who had never seen the boys earlier, refused to send the five-year-old with them.
The boy’s mother soon arrived at the spot to pick him up and when the teacher informed her about the two boys attempting to take him away, she raised an alarm. She then caught one of the
boys from the spot; the other managed to flee. She then took the boy to the police station. After questioning him, the police picked up the other boy too.
Both boys are friends and live at Scooter Colony in Malad (East). The younger accused studies in Std VI and told the police that the 11-year-old promised to treat him to pizza and took him to St Mary’s School instead, telling him that he had to pick up his aunt’s son from school.
Police sources revealed that the 11-year-old lives with his handicapped mother, who begs for a living. The police have not revealed the motive for the kidnapping yet.
