The Dharavi police arrested a 14-year-old boy on Wednesday night for attacking a 61-year-old woman with scissors and knife when she caught him stealing money from her home. He was allegedly stealing the money to repair his brother's bicycle.

Night attack
The police said that at 10 pm, the boy had gone to his neighbour Savitaben and Murji Variya's house on the third floor and was digging for money in their cupboard. She caught him and reprimanded him. The boy picked up a piece of wood and hit her on her head, after which he attacked her with scissors and knife. Murji and other neighbours heard Savitaben screaming. They rushed to her and found her in a pool of blood.

The neighbours informed the police and called for an ambulance. Savitaben was taken to a hospital, where her condition is stable. The police have detained the boy.

All for brother?
The boy's elder brother said, "His friends broke the cycle's brakes doing stunts and returned it after a month without repairs. I told my brother to ask them to repair it, which would cost R3,000-R4,000. After that day, my brother would always be in a bad mood and speak rudely with the family."

ACP Uttam Kolekar said, "The minor has been booked under sections 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC. The minor was presented before a juvenile court and sent to the Dongri Children's Home."

Rs 3,000
Minimum cost for repairing the broken bicycle
