She quietly locked the door from outside and called the police, who managed to catch the accused red-handed. According to the police, the duo, both history-sheeters, had been keeping tabs on Modi’s house for a few days, where she lives with her family.
They found out that every day, when the rest of the family members left for work, Modi went to the market in the afternoon. They decided to break-in on Monday. On February 9, Modi left the house like any other day. However, once she reached the market she realised that the shops were closed since it was Monday and, thus, went home.
When she reached, she noticed that the door was open. Suspicious, the woman quietly sneaked inside and saw the two burglars, Mohsin Kadar Baloj (27) and Manoj Mahendrasingh Chittaliya (50), stealing valuables from the house.
Thinking on her feet, Modi went back outside and locked the door. She then immediately called the police. A team of cops and detection staff of Vile Parle reached the place and arrested the duo.
Serial housebreakers
Police officials said that the duo have several cases against them. They were recently released from Arthur Road jail, after which 50-year-old Chittaliya was admitted to the hospital for an illness.
A police officer said, “He was discharged from the hospital just last week and. on Monday, along with Baloj, he committed the crime. Both have several cases against them at various police stations, including two in Vile Parle itself. The woman’s quick call helped us nab the accused.”
Police inspector Mahadev Nimbalkar of Vile Parle police station said, “Baloj and Chittaliya have been arrested under sections 454 (Lurking house-trespass or house-breaking), 380 (Theft in dwelling house) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. They were produced in court and have been remanded in police custody.”
