Not recession, just realignment, says MTV

However, when Sunday MiD DAY contacted MTV, Abhinav Chopra (vice president, human resources, Viacom 18 media), reiterated that it wasn't recession, but a structural and strategic alignment.

He said, "This realignment is going to result in changes in the organisation structure, reporting relationships and a few middle and junior level positions across a few teams. In all, 25 positions have been impacted and amongst these, many will continue working with us on specific projects and genres as outsourced resources. In time, you'll see a lot more focus on non-music content, including long-form programming, bound to deliver far more dividends in reach, ratings and revenues."

Further, Chopra confirmed, "Other Viacom18 businesses remain unaffected."

When asked whether this was MTV's reaction to the recessionary trend, a company spokesperson denied it and added, "We're at our highest ratings ever and the story on the revenue front is no different either. Going into 2009-10, we've set ourselves some very aggressive goals."

"The 25 positions in question will be off the company payroll and will be asked to work on a project to project basis. They will still be called to work with us as and when required," added the spokesperson.
