According to Thane NCP President Jitendra Awhaad, the move is a protest against the forces opposing V-Day celebrations. "This is Talibanisation on the pretext of protecting the Indian culture. Looking at the Mangalore pub attack, we want to inform people that this is a liberal country and one canu00a0celebrate Valentine's Dayu00a0if they wish to," said Awhaad.
However, the move made by the NCP leaders seems to be a political gimmick. With the Lok Sabha elections around the corner, the NCP is looking for a foothold in Thane.
The NCP hadu00a0suffered a huge defeat in the Thane Lok Sabha by-polls in May last year. But now, after delimitation, the NCP is fancying its chances not only in the erstwhile Thane Lok Sabha seat, now divided into two, but across Thane district.
