In a shocking incident, upset after being reportedly scolded by his teacher, a 12-year-old boy died after allegedly jumping off from the fourth floor of his school building on Tuesday morning.


The incident took place at around 10 am on Tuesday at sector 13 at New Horizon public school in Panvel's Khanda colony.


It is believed that the victim, identified as Gaurav Kank, was a sixth-grade student who was allegedly scolded by his teacher after which he took this disastrous step.

Police officials from Khandeshwar police station revealed that the incident took place during recess time. The boy is believed to have opened the window of a room in the fourth floor and jumped to his death.

He was immediately transferred to a private local hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Krishna Sawant, a relative of the deceased, said, "The family is in shock and not in a condition to speak. We have come to here from our native place in Sangli to perform his final rites. The boy has another brother who is two years younger to him. We have registered a case at Khandeshwar police station."

Meanwhile, school authorities refused to comment on the issue after claiming that they were examining the entire incident.

Investigating officer, PSI Vikas Suryavanshi of Khandeshwar police station, said, "The school windows were closed. There is a possibility that the boy might have opened them. However, nothing can be concluded as of now. We have booked the school authorities under section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. The matter is still under investigation and we are yet to take a conclusion. The exact details of the incidents are not clear as the parents are traumatized and not in a position to speak."

Officials also revealed that the boy's lunch box was untouched when the incident took place.
