A group collects 900 kg of non-perishable items such as sanitary napkins for Nepal relief
The devastation of the Nepal earthquake has inspired many people to collect money, food items and relief material for the victims. A group of Mumbai-based mothers have decided to do their bit by sending sanitary napkins, soaps and toiletries, bottled water and non-perishable food items to Nepal. While they have already sent around 450 kg of material with an airline as well as a social activist, the rest of the batch will be sent this Tuesday.

Ritu Gorai, a resident of Bhandup, encouraged her friends and family across the city to create JAMM’s (Journey About Mast Mom’s) a Whatsapp group to get members to donate. She has managed to create 10 such groups, each of whose admins are responsible for collecting material from their members. “We have decided to send non-perishable items such as sanitary napkins, soaps, baby foods and powders.
We are even taking donations from outside,” said Gorai, who has volunteered to collect relief material in Bhandup. Other members of the group are collecting material from their respective areas like Malad, Chembur, Byculla, Ghatkopar, Cuffe Parade etc.
“We want more people to come forward and donate,” adds Gorai.
