The case was registered at suburban Kandivali police station against Mumbai North constituency Congress candidate Sanjay Nirupam, MLA P U Mehta and a Congress municipal councillor for carrying out inauguration function of a party office in Kandivali without permission yesterday, a senior police officer of Kandivali police station said.
"The case has been registered under section 188 of the IPC (disobedience to an order promulgated by a public servant) for the use of loudspeakers and organising a function with a large number of people without police permission," he said.
They have also been accused of obstructing traffic and exploding fireworks in violation of the existing laws, he said. "We have registered the case and will approach the court for further action," the official added.
