Resul Pookutty, our Oscar man, could not have expected a grander welcome; however, he had to be driven to the police station first to escape crowds
As modest as it can get, Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty, who landed at the Sahar Airport along with his wife Shadia andu00a0 actor Irrfan Khan today, said he didn't expect so much excitement among fans to see him.
Enthusiastic fans, flowers, placards and a red convertible decorated with flowers welcomed Pookutty, while the Oscar-winning track Jai Ho played in the background.
Resul Pookutty told Mid DAY, "I didn't expect so many people would turn up to welcome me. Though it's my daughter Salna's first birthday today, the Oscar is a gift not only to her, but also for every Indian. Both Salna and my three-and-a-half-year-old son Rayaan are my lucky charm."
As soon as he came out of the airport, an excited crowd gathered to greet him. To escape the crowds, heu00a0 was rushed to the police van along with his wife and Khan.
They were taken to the Sahar International Airport police station first before being driven to his Goregaon home in the red car, which was arranged by the sound-mixing association of the film industry.
Resul's wife Shadia (34) said, "It's a coincidence that when Resul got an offer for Slumdog Millionaire, we also got the good news that I was pregnant with my second child. And now, he has won an Oscar as she turns a year old. You can call her the Slumdog Millionaire baby (laughs). Oscar celebration will go on, but today's priority is our daughter's birthday."
