The Bombay High court on Friday refused to grant permission to three senior doctors, accused of abetment in Dr Payal Tadvi's suicide case, to enter Topiwala National Medical College, attached to Nair Hospital College, to complete their studies.

Bhakti Mehare, Ankita Khandelwal and Hema Ahuja had filed a petition seeking permission. However, providing some relief to the trio, the court relaxed the condition from the bail order which prevented them from practising.

On Friday, Justice Sadhna Jadhav rejected their petition on the basis of an opinion given by the Gynaecology Head of Department (HoD) Ganesh Shinde. "There is extreme hostility against the accused in hospital and especially in the department. If permission is granted to them, it can have an impact on the working of the department," Shinde told the court.

Taking note of Shinde's statement, Justice Jadhav directed them to complete their studies after the trial was over.

Justice Jadhav added that it was not right to have suspended their medical licences as the court did not have the jurisdiction to do so and noted that the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has already initiated an inquiry into the issue and would take appropriate decision on suspension of their licences.
