GAMDEVI police identified the body of a murder victim found on Kennedy Bridge, Grant Road on Saturday morning, and arrested three culprits that very evening. Police officers moved fast after receiving a call at 7 am about a body was lying on Kennedy Bridge. The body had several injuries and the head was smashed, which led the police to suspect foul play.

The deceased has been identified as 30 year-old Aakash, a catering supplier, who was killed by business rivals.
While questioning locals, a man identified the deceased saying he had seen him visit Amrut Caterers in Grant Road often. That proved to be the crucial piece of information that would help police crack the case.

Aakash, who supplied hired help to Amrut Caterers, was returning home on Friday night at 12 am, when he was accosted near Jyoti Studio at Grant Road by business rivals, Nizam, Deepak Thakur alias Dai (24), Rahul Thakur alias Builder (22) and Kushna Bhatt (28), who assaulted him. They attacked Akash with a gunnysack stuffed with rocks, which killed him.

The four then took Akash's body to Kennedy Bridge with the aim of disposing it on the railway tracks. Instead, they left it on the bridge and fled. The police sent the body to the JJ Hospital for a post mortem. "Deepak Thakur, Rahul Thakur and Kushna Bhatt have been arrested in connection with the case, while Nizam, the main accused, is absconding," said Sanjay Divadkar, senior police inspector of Gamdevi police station.
