Locals say they have filed several complaints at the G-South ward office; a tree collapse has killed one person this month
It looks like the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is waiting for another mishap to happen. Residents of Prabhadevi have filed several complaints at the local BMC ward office of G-South about more than 30 trees that are allegedly close to collapsing in Prabhadevi area.

However, despite the complaints, the authorities are yet to trim the trees. In the past two weeks, more than 50 such trees have fallen in the area, resulting in one fatality in Dadar. Acting on the residents’ complaints, the local corporator sent multiple letters to the garden officer and local ward officer of G South ward.
However, he alleged that he is yet to get a response from the authorities. “Many branches of the trees dangerously lean over the road and can fall at any time,” said Santosh Dhuri, the local corporator. When questioned about the matter, the BMC officials said that during the summer, the residents obstructed the officials doing the job.
“The residents said that the trees provide shade during the summer. Also, our on-duty workers have been dragged to the police station many times for doing their work. Now, we will complete the work this monsoon,” said BMC official from the tree department of G South ward, on condition of anonymity.
Vijay Hire, Garden Superintendent and tree officer said, “Such incidents take place because residents don’t cooperate during the trimming activities. They need to help the authorities in their work to ensure that it’s done on time.”
