Unit V of the city's Crime Branch solved five robbery cases with the arrest of two youngsters from Kurla yesterday. According to police, the accused -- Pinto alias Amardeep Singh alias Shyam Bhau (22), and Sainathu00a0 Aarote (21) -- committed burglaries during the day to splurge the money at Bandra and Khar pubs by night.
Red-handed: The duo caught was caught on a CCTV camera installed
in one of the shops they had robbed in August last year
Elaborating on how they chanced upon the duo, Shashikant Mane, an inspector attached with Unit V , said, "We received a tip-off that two unemployed youth from poor families frequent Madness pub in Khar and Pulse in Bandra."
When the cops saw them, they smelled a rat because the duo wore expensive clothes and pretended to be from well-off families. "We followed them and discovered that they lived in Makadwala Compound on New Mill Road in Kurla (West). Both of them belonged to very poor families, but they wore branded clothes and travelled in auto rickshaws," Mane added.
The police then decided to intercept the duo to find out their source of income. Upon interrogation, the duo confessed to having committed robberies in Nehru Nagar and Vinoba Bhave Nagar areas in Kurla, Dadar, Jogeshwari and Ghatkopar. "Till date they have committed five robberies and splurged the money, which they obtained from selling the booty, on their clothes and partying," said Mane.
