On Saturday afternoon, supporters of Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Anandrao Adsul vandalised the office of a popular Marathi newspaper in South Mumbai. They were protesting against a report published in the Marathi language daily on Saturday allegedly speculating that party MP from Amravati, Adsul, was planning to defect to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).u00a0 Around 100 people carrying saffron flags burnt copies of the daily and barged into the building, destroying the doorframe, metal detectors and computers at the reception. "We have detained few people and are going through CCTV footage to nab the others who were involved in the attack," said Shashikant Satav, Assistant Police Commissioner at Azad Maidan police station.

Meanwhile in a press conference at Dadar, Adsul said, "Newspapers are free to write whatever they want, but that doesn't mean they can write false news. They didn't bother to check with me on the same, before going to press. I am planning to sue the paper for defamation of Rs 100 crore and I also plan to file a complaint with the state election commissioner for violation of the code of conduct."
In another incident, miffed about ticket distribution to contest the upcoming polls, some sub-district BJP workers vandalised the BJP head office at Dadar on Saturday. Leaders Vinod Tawde and Kirit Somaiya, who tried to stop them were roughed up.
