Sheena Bora murder case: CBI has accepted Maharashtra govt's request to take over probe

The CBI has accepted Maharashtra government's request to take over the probe into the Sheena Bora murder case which involved "many financial transactions", Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said.

"Before we sent them (the Union Government) a request to take over the investigation into the Sheena Bora murder case, we had informal conversations with central government and CBI officers. They have agreed to take up the investigation in the case," he told reporters here, adding that the notification for the same may have been issued by now.

The state decided to hand over the probe to the premier investigation agency as there were "many financial transactions involved" and the government felt it would be easier for CBI to probe the various aspects involved in the case, said Fadnavis, who also holds the Home portfolio.

"There are many angles that need to be probed in the case. We felt it would be better if a central agency probed the murder as it would have all necessary resources at its disposal," Fadnavis said.

However, if required, the state government would be willing to help the CBI with manpower as it did in the murder case of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, he said.

Following a request from the CBI, the state government last month deputed seven officers to assist the agency to solve the killing of Dabholkar, who was shot dead in Pune on August 20, 2013.
