No clarity about pay scales; many are still waiting for fifth pay commission arrears
Most of the city schools claimed in media reports that they have hiked fees to pay salaries to teachers according to the sixth pay commission.

But a few teachers are still unsure whether the new pay scales are according to the fifth pay commission or the sixth pay commission as they say they are unaware about their previous salary details.
Last year, several teachers protested saying that they had not received salary hikes after claims made by schools.
A few teachers are fighting for not just the sixth pay commission arrears, but also for the fifth pay commission arrears.
Dinesh Desai (name changed), a teacher from a South Mumbai School, said, "We have not been paid our fifth pay commission and sixth pay commission arrears, and also 50 per cent merging of dearness allowance yet.

We served them a notice two months ago. Schools are now asking old teachers to resign and hiring new ones and paying them less."
Another teacher Sheela Chawla, from a South Mumbai School, said, "Our school was supposed to pay us Rs 1.25 lakh as arrears from 2000 to 2005 but it has only paid Rs 30,000 so far. We are still waiting for Rs 95,000."
Jayant Jain, president, All India Federation of PTA, said, "Schools are hiking the fees, but teachers are getting nothing.
Most of the teachers were not paid fifth pay arrears and now schools are directly paying them according to sixth pay commission. Schools are looting parents in the name of paying salary to the teachers.
