Dismissing superstitions and old wives' tales, Mithali and Sudhir Kamble became proud parents of a healthy baby boy and are brimmingu00a0 with happiness.

Little Yash was born at 7.17 am during the solar eclipse yesterday. But the natural phenomenon was the last thing on the Kambles' mind when Mithila experienced labour pains at 3 am.

"My due date was in August, but I suddenly felt pains in the middle of the night and we rushed to Wadia Hospital," said Mithila (31), who lost a baby two years ago due to neonatal complications.

"We did not even remember there was an eclipse happening when the baby was being delivered. Our baby is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for observation, but we hear that he is very active.

If we consider these superstitions we will just be more worried and my wife doesn't need that," said Sudhir, who does clerical jobs at a packaging firm in Dadar.

According to doctors, Mithila will be discharged in a day or two. "The baby is being kept under observationu00a0 because of the couple's history.

However, there isn't any problem and it's refreshing to see that the couple are unconcerned about the eclipse," said Dr Adi Dastur, dean, Wadia Maternity Hospital.
