Mumbai: A special court here today issued summonses to former city Congress chief Kripashankar Singh and his family members in the disproportionate assets case against them.

Singh and others have been asked by the court dealing with Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cases to be present on September 16. ACB had filed the charge sheet on April 4 under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.
The case was registered after the Bombay High Court directed police to investigate allegations of criminal misconduct and disproportionate assets against Singh.

Sanjay Tiwari, an activist, had filed a public interest litigation alleging that Singh and his relatives had assets of Rs 320 crore, disproportionate to known sources of their income.

Tiwari claimed that Singh was close to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, jailed in a hawala scam, and several monetary transactions had taken place between them. Singh's son Narendra Mohan is married to Ankita, daughter of Kamlesh Singh, a minister in Koda cabinet. Ankita had received Rs 1.75 crore in her account from Kamlesh, the PIL said, adding that there were huge transactions in the accounts of Kripashankar's wife Malti Devi too.
