Aggravating the inconvenience caused by yesterday’s mega block on the Central Railway (CR), a ladies coach of a Kalyan-bound train jumped tracks between Dombivli and Thakurli.

While the derailment occurred around 11.35 am, it took nearly three hours for the authorities to remove the derailed coach. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the mishap.

The derailment resulted in cancellation of 20 services. With services being shifted on the fast line towards Kalyan, commuters complained that the trains were running late by 15 minutes on average.

Sources from CR claimed that there is a nullah that runs parallel to the track and the authorities are checking if it has anything to do with the incident.

They claimed that there is a possibility that the tracks may have sunk due to loose soil under it, leading to the mishap.

“We will be measuring all aspects around the tracks where the coach derailed. An enquiry is on,” said Amitabh Ojha, Divisional Railway Manager (Mumbai), CR.
