Passengers using the Mumbai airport on Monday were severely inconvenienced, especially in the first half of the day due to a transport strike.

The airport management tried to manage the strike with eight buses being arranged for passengers in the morning hours. These buses were arranged in order to transport the passengers from the terminal to Vile Parle station.

Though the authorities said that the strike was on effect till 5 pm, the airport officials maintained that the strike was called off by around 12.30 pm.

Sources said that the passengers who deplaned before by 9am had to wait and fight to get in to the crowded vehicles. The situation was brought under control in an hour.

The Swabhiman Sangathan that had called a strike in the city on Monday midnight claims to have 1500 taximen who did not ferry passengers from both domestic as well as international terminal.

KK Tiwari, Mumbai President of Swabhiman Sangathan, said, "We do not want to trouble the passengers but the government is not ready to listen to us. I have been writing letters to the government mentioning our concerns but they have been ignored till date.” He added, “The bandh today was to voice protest against cab aggregators like Uber and Ola, which are affecting the business of others.”
