Police officials have identified the victim as Dharmishta Gajara. Her husband Hansraj Gajara was an alcoholic who assaulted her on a daily basis.
“Hansraj worked as a tempo driver and they got married in 1996. The house that they occupied was registered under the name of Dharmishta’s father. The accused kept assaulting Dharmishta, after which she decided not to let him enter the house. Dharmishtha had evicted him from the residence several times in the past,” said Senior Police Inspector Dattatray Patil from the Panvel police station.
On Thursday morning, Hansraj made another attempt to return to the residence, this time bringing a knife with him. “The two started fighting again over whether he could stay in the house, but she refused to live with him again. After a long argument, the accused stabbed her on her neck with the knife and even attacked his son Rushabh when he tried to save his mother,” said Patil.
The cops also revealed that Hansraj always accused Dharmishta of cheating on him. “After attacking his wife and son, the accused fled from the spot, leaving his slippers and cell phone behind. Dharmishta’s brother later arrived at the spot. He spoke to Rushabh, who managed to tell him that his father had attacked them. Rushabh was later admitted to Gandhi Hospital,” said Patil. u00a0
