Atul Salve, a prisoner lodged in the Aadharwadi jail, was constantly vomiting on Monday after which the doctors suggested that he be taken to a hospital for a check-up.
He was brought to ward number 17 of the OPD department and that was when he sensed an opportunity to escape.
Salve was arrested on May 15 after the parents of the minor girl filed a case of kidnapping against him in Ulhasnagar police station. The girl, who was just 10 days shy of turning 18at the time of incident, eloped with the boy who promised her marriage.
"On Tuesday, when three officers took him to the central hospital, Salve pushed them and ran away,” said an officer from Central police station, adding that Salve, who was to come out on bail in two days was taken to the hospital with two more accused.
Senior Police Inspector AV Saigaonkar, Central police station, said, "We have registered a case under IPC section 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) against the accused and have alerted the Ulhasnagar police station about his escape since he was booked and arrested by them. We are trying to trace him."
