Constable Uttam Adsul (49), attached with the Thane Commissionerate, was attacked by his neighbour with an iron rod in his off-duty hours on Saturday. The Khadakpada police have registered a case and say that the constable was on a walk when the accused incidentally hit him on the shoulder, after which both men assaulted each other.

The incident took place at around 5.30 pm, when Adsul was out on a walk with his pet dog outside his home. “I was walking when the accused Sachin Thorat started hitting me with an iron rod. I fell and my pet dog barked and attacked him, so he fled," said Adsul.

Uttam who was hit with the rod on his head and back had to get five stitches. "The Khadakpada police, instead of registering an attempt to murder case have registered a case under Section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), which is not reliable,” said Adsul’s son Shrenik.

"We registered a case on Saturday night and found that the accused, while walking brushed his shoulder against Uttam. Both of them hit each other and it was a personal matter,” said Gulabrao Gore, senior police inspector, Khadakpada police station.
