The Bombay High Court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to two road contractors who are accused in a Rs 350-crore road repair scam.

Justice P N Deshmukh, while granting the interim bail to road contractors Jitendra Kikavat and Manish Kasliwal, observed that others accused in the case got bail from lower court, and that the duo cooperated with the police in the investigation.
The high court granted interim bail to the two contractors for a surety of Rs one lakh each, and directed them to appear daily before the police concerned from July 20 to 23.
A case was lodged with Azad Maidan police station on April 27, this year after BMC's internal probe revealed that more than two dozen roads in the city were of poor quality.
The police registered a case under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 197 (issuing or signing false certificate) and 120(b) (criminal conspiracy). Police have so far arrested 22 junior-rung officials of six contractors.
The six firms named in the FIR are Relcon-R K Madhani (JV), R K Madhani, Relcon Infra Projects Ltd, Mahavir Road Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, J Kumar K R Construction and RPS K R Construction.
