Fed up of mosquitoes, diseases and an unbearable stench in Thane caused by the dumping ground on its outskirts, NCP leader and MLC Jitendra Awhad chose to unload a dumper full of garbage in front of the BMC headquarters in protest, last night. And, it was a BMC dumper that did the job!
Awhad said, "Thane residents have to buy at least two deodorants per day to stop the bad odour from entering their homes. The ground also breeds mosquitoes and creates health problems. The NCP activists have adopted this method in protest."
At 12.30 am last night, three men dumped the garbage in front of the BMC headquarters and fled as soon as the security spotted them. The beat marshals of Azad Maidan police station then chased them down.
Accused Mohd Subed Ansari (21), a cleaner, and two drivers Kitabudin Nizamuddin Ansari (22) and Mohd Edras Sheikh (30) have been arrested. They have been booked for polluting a public place and speeding.u00a0
Balasaheb Bankar, a beat marshal, said, "As soon as we were told that someone had unloaded garbage in front of the BMC headquarters, I chased them with my colleague Madhav Salvi."
Harishchandra Kolekar, junior overseer of BMC, said, "I was in the BMC office at MG road, North. I rushed to the spot and informed Assistant Head Supervisor Kamble about the incident."u00a0
