The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation collected 150 samples from various part of the city and identified Kurla (L ward) as possessing the most contaminated water among all the wards. These samples have been collected over the last one month.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajiv Jalota said, "Contamination can be attributed to old pipelines. Most of them have leakages, which cause infiltration of bacteria. In the monsoon, water pipelines overflow with contents of other sewerage lines mix with the water." He added that the health department would be making a note of the areas based on the results of the samples collected to take precautions and actions regarding the gastro related diseases which would increase.
