"He came from behind and snatched the cell phone from my hands. I chased him but he vanished into the nearby slums in Bandra (East). During the pursuit, I fell and hurt myself," said Iyer, a boarder of YMCA Hostel in Andheri. Iyer added that she shouted out for help but everyone turned a deaf ear to her pleas.
Iyer filed an FIR at Bandra railway police station. One of the investigating officers said, "The mobile will be traced only if another Sim card is inserted in the phone. We will send letters to various mobile operators. If the phone comes in range, we will be able to trace it."
Asked about the absence of police officers at the platform, the officer added, "There are always two police personnel present at the station. They must have gone to attend to some other commuters." Sarita, originally from Gujarat, moved to Mumbai four years ago. She works for J G Naik and Company as an auditory assistant.
She said, "Before this incident, I always thought Mumbai was a safe place. I was lucky that he didn't harm me. The police should be more vigilant."u00a0u00a0
