A near tragedy was averted at the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Wednesday morning when a police patrol boat carrying nine people was entangled in a fisherman's net on its round around the Bandra end of the link. The boat was heading to Ferry Wharf.
A near tragedy was averted at the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Wednesday morning when a police patrol boat carrying nine people was entangled in a fisherman's net on its round around the Bandra end of the link. The boat was heading to Ferry Wharf.

The incident took place shortly before the opening of the link at 7:00 am when the net got entangled in the motor, stopping it. The crew then lowered an anchor but because of strong currents the anchor was not able to stand ground.
A helicopter was deployed by the coast guard for the rescue operation and all stranded were rescued. The coast guard operation took two hours. Those rescued included four police constables and five fishermen.
