Fearful of the rising number of sexual harassment cases occurring in schools and colleges, the University of Mumbai has decided to take some measures to deal more sternly with the abuse committed at educational institutions.
The University of Woman Development Cell (UDWC) in collaboration with Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College, Ghatkopar, has decided to conduct a seminar to come up with a program that will enable teachers and officials at educational institutions to deal with cases of sexual abuse. The seminar will be conducted in January and will be open to schools, colleges and NGOs.
Dr Rekha Mahadeshwar, member secretary, UWDC, said, "This seminar will be a dialogue between the students, college principals as well as the school principals. We have seen a rise in the number of sexual harassment cases in schools and as of now there is no mechanism or guidelines to tackle these issues."
