One of the doctors treating the victims told mid-day, “All three victims admitted in our hospital are critical and are under observation. While Vimla sustained 85 per cent burns, Santosh and Sapna received 75 per cent and 65 per cent burns, respectively. All of them have been kept on ventilatory support system.”
Family speak
“After their health deteriorated, doctors at the Sion hospital advised us to shift Vimla and Santosh to Kasturba for further treatment,” said Santosh Surve, a friend of the victims.
“The fourth victim, Devman Singh (40), is also critical and is at Sion hospital. He sustained head injuries in the mishap.” Relatives and friends added that they could not shift the victims to the burns centre in Airoli due to high treatment cost.
“We discovered that charges at Airoli’s burns centre are high. Since the victims’ families cannot afford such costly treatment, they were admitted to the civic-run Kasturba hospital,” said a relative.
