While commuters state that the wire was at fault, railway officials have no clear explanation as to how the mishap took place.

No first aid

According to commuters, the overhead wire and the pantograph, which draws power from the wire to the train, snapped at the same time and hit the passengers near the train's door.

Amit Gada (25) from Malad, one of the injured, recalled the incident. "I boarded the train at Malad at 11 am. Suddenly, before the train could reach Santacruz station, at around 11.25 am, the overhead wire snapped.

It fell on the roof and on the commuters who were standing at the door. We were taken to the station master's office and then to Cooper Hospital without being administered any first aid," alleged Gada.
