Woman dies as TTE pushes her out of moving train for boarding AC compartment

A train ticket examiner (TTE) from Mumbai allegedly pushed a 32-year-old woman off a moving train at Jalgaon station, while she was boarding an air-conditioned coach on a general class ticket. Her two daughters and nephew were with her at the time.

The Jalgaon Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested the ticket examiner, Sampat Ganpat Salunkhe, and booked him for causing death by negligence. They are investigating if he was drunk at the time of his thoughtless act.

According to the police, Ujjwala Nilesh Pandya was returning with the kids from her parents’ place in Jalgaon to her home in Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh. She had a ticket for the general class. As the train was about to leave the station, Pandya, who hadn’t yet boarded, tried getting into the nearest bogey which was an AC coach with the children.

Police Sub-inspector (PSI) Sunil Pardeshi of Jalgaon GRP said, “The woman had a general class ticket from Jalgaon to Khandwa on the LTT-Rajendranagar Patna Express. She ushered the children into a three-tier AC compartment along with the luggage. While she was about to get into the moving train, TTE Salunkhe came at the door and allegedly pushed her. She fell into the gap between the train and the platform, and was crushed.

Mob fury
Commuters who witnessed the incident pulled the chain, but it was too late. Angered, they assaulted the ticket examiner, who tried to hide in the pantry car, but the mob dragged him out and handed him to the police. “He has been booked under IPC section 304A for causing death due to negligence. The incident took place around 6 am,” said PSI Pardeshi. Salunkhe will be produced in court today.
