Mumbai saw a significant jump in test positivity rate along with new cases which crossed the 300-mark on Sunday. As per BMC’s numbers, the city recorded 336 fresh infections, while the TPR stood at 0.82 per cent. COVID claimed two lives during the day. BMC attributed the sudden rise in TPR to the increased screening at the airport.

While the lowest TPR of the second wave was registered at 0.28 per cent on December 1, the city’s zero death toll was reported on December 11 and on December 15. Officials said they have stepped up screening of fliers at the airport amid Omicron fears and this has resulted in the TPR going up.
