COVID-19 cases in Mumbai and Maharashtra show a slight dip

The state recorded 27,918 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 27.73 lakh cases. The number of mortality cases too has been seeing an increasing trend in the past few days as the COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 139 in the last 24 hours taking the total to 54,422 deaths in all.

After recording over 31k cases in the state in the past few days continuously, the number dipped to 27K and the same is the case in the city, where the number had gone upto 6k, as on Tuesday it recorded cases below 5k.


The state recorded 27,918 new cases taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 27.73 lakh cases. The number of mortality cases too has been seeing an increasing trend in the past few days as the COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 139 in the last 24 hours taking the total to 54,422 deaths in all.


On Monday the city reported 4,760 new cases. The MMR number that had crossed the 10K mark in the past two days has dropped to 8,807 cases with the Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporation recording a spike in positive cases with 925, 772 and 943 reported, respectively. 


The state’s recovery rate which has dropped now stands at 85.71 per cent with 23,820 patients discharged. The total number of active COVID patients in the state is currently 3,40,542 cases. The state saw 1.96 crore laboratory samples collected till date since March 2020 and out of these 27.73 lakh have tested positive with 14.13 per cent positivity ratio. 

Mumbai’s recovery rate has dropped and stands at 85 per cent while the doubling rate now stands at 50 days. The city’s overall growth rate has increased rapidly in the last one week and currently stands at 1.34 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far now stands at 40.93 lakh cases and the number of tests carried out so far is 40.41lakh. The active cases now stand at 49,167 in the city.

The mortality rate of the state is steady at around 1.96 per cent. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state is 1,345 so far. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications.

According to the state government’s data there were 139 COVID-related deaths in the state, and highest number of deaths were recorded in Nashik city at 12 deaths. MMR recorded a total of 21 death cases, including Mumbai which recorded 10 deaths. Civic officials said out of these 10 deaths, 6 patients were suffering from other ailments and 7 deaths were of senior citizens.
