Covid-19 cases in Mumbai remain stable

Mumbai on Sunday reported 555 fresh infections and 15 fatalities; doubling rate at 928 days

Mumbai on Sunday confirmed 555 cases of novel Coronavirus after conducting a total of 35,000 tests, registering a test positivity rate of 1.6 per cent. The civic body also confirmed 15 fatalities from Covid-19 complications. Daily infections in the city have remained between 500 and 600 over the past week.


On Sunday, 666 patients were discharged after full recovery, and the city now has 7,354 active patients.


Among the 15 newly confirmed deaths, 12 patients had comorbidities, 10 were senior citizens, two were aged 40-59 years and three were below the age of 40 years. The recovery rate in the city remained steady at 96 per cent and the current doubling rate is 928 days.

The state recorded 8,535 fresh cases and 156 fatalities, with the Pune circle reporting 2,139 cases and Kolhapur circle 3,282. The number of cases and deaths are still on a higher side in Kolhapur circle.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported 1,704 new cases on Sunday. Mira-Bhayandar, which had been reporting fewer than 50 cases every day since last month, saw a massive rise in daily tally to 125 on Sunday. Mira-Bhayandar had reported 90 new cases on July 9, but the city’s daily tally was over 100  on May 28 (144 cases).

Thane recorded 107 cases, Navi Mumbai 129 and Kalyan-Dombivli 80. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, witnessed 20 deaths, out of which 11 were reported in Raigad.

Across the state, a total of 6,013 patients were discharged on Sunday, leaving nearly 1.16 lakh active cases.
