Mumbai reported 20,181 Covid cases on Thursday, a 33 per cent jump in fresh infections over the previous day. With the city carrying out 67,487 tests, the test positivity rate stood at 29.9 per cent. While authorities had talked of bringing in curbs if daily cases rose above 20,000, they said there is no such plan at the moment owing to fewer hospitalisations.

While experts predict the daily numbers to rise further, the silver lining is that about 85 per cent of those who tested positive during the day are asymptomatic. At the peak of the second wave, the highest number of single-day infections stood at 11,163.

According to a report shared by the BMC, 1,170 patients were hospitalised on Thursday, taking the total number of such patients to 5,998. The city registered four Covid deaths. All the victims were comorbid and above the age of 60. The doubling rate dropped to 70 days.  While the recovery rate of Mumbai was 88 per cent, 2,837 patients were discharged on Thursday.
