COVID-19: Maharashtra's total tally is over 20 lakh

The cumulative number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra has now crossed over two million or 20 lakh. With 2,886 new cases, the total tally was 20.008 lakh on 
Thursday. The city reported over 500 cases. The number of COVID-related deaths recorded in the state was 52 taking the total to 50,634 deaths in all. 


The city had 527 fresh cases on Thursday. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporation recorded 90, 60 and 72 cases respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. 


The state’s recovery rate now stands at 95.13 per cent with 3,980 patients discharged on Thursday. Mumbai’s recovery rate also stands at 94 per cent while the doubling rate is improving and currently at 435 days. The city’s daily growth rate is now at 0.21 per cent as the total count now stands at 3.04 lakh cases. The city has 6,667 ongoing cases.

The mortality rate of the state was 2.53 per cent till date. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,214. These deaths are the cases where patients tested positive and then tested negative but later died due to other complications. The state saw 1.40 crore laboratory samples collected out of which 20,00,878 tested positive with 14.27 per cent positivity ratio in the state.

There were 52 COVID related deaths in the state led by Aurangabad as it recorded 11 deaths and followed by Mumbai with 10 cases. At least 3 deaths were recorded in MMR’s Thane region apart from Mumbai, taking the total tally of deaths recorded in MMR to 13. According to civic officials, out of the 10 deaths, 7 patients were suffering from other ailments and all cases were senior citizens.
