After a dip in COVID-19 cases on Monday in the state, the number shot up both in the city and state on Tuesday. There were over 60K cases in the state while the city numbers stayed below 10k on the second consecutive day. Interestingly, for the second day in a row, the city recorded higher discharges than new cases.

The state recorded 60,212 new cases, taking the total tally of Maharashtra to 35.19 lakh. On Tuesday the COVID-related deaths recorded in the state were 281 taking the total to 58,526 deaths in all.
The city saw 7,873 cases. The MMR recorded 16,596 cases in a single day. The Thane Municipal Corporation, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan Dombivali Corporation recorded 1,657, 1,149 and 1,308 cases, respectively in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The state’s recovery rate stands at 81.44 per cent with 31,624 patients discharged. The total number of active COVID patients in the state is currently 5,93,042. The state saw 2.25 crore laboratory samples collected till date since March 2020, out of which 35.19 lakh have tested positive with 15.6 per cent positivity ratio.
Mumbai’s recovery rate now stands at 81 per cent while the doubling rate now stands at 38 days. The city’s overall growth rate has been steady in the past one week as it currently stands at 1.79 per cent. The total count of positive cases recorded so far now stands at 5.3 lakh. The active cases now stand at 86,866 in the city. The city saw about 11,263 patients discharged on Tuesday.
The mortality rate of the state is steady at around 1.66 per cent despite the increase in the number of deaths recorded in the past few weeks. The number of deaths due to other causes in the state was 1,543 so far. These deaths are the cases where patients were positive and tested negative but later died due to other complications.
According to the state government there were 281 COVID related deaths in the state on Tuesday, and the highest deaths were recorded in Mumbai with 27 deaths. MMR recorded a total of 46 death cases, including Mumbai. There was disparity in the state government’s data and the BMC’s data as the civic body recorded 26 deaths in Mumbai on Tuesday. Civic officials said of these deaths, 15 patients were suffering from other ailments and 23 deaths were of senior citizens.
