COVID-19: Mumbai cases less than 1,000 again, but still few tests conducted

On Tuesday 849 cases were registered in Mumbai after 18,469 tests including RT-PCR and Antigen.

The city reported less than a thousand cases again on Tuesday, but this was after fewer tests were done. The number of deaths, however, was two. In the state, there were 7,863 COVID-19 cases registered along with 54 deaths. The deaths were more in the interior of the state.


On Tuesday 849 cases were registered in Mumbai after 18,469 tests including RT-PCR and Antigen. The city has reported more than a thousand cases on four occasions in the past seven days when the number of tests was increased to over 22,000. The test positivity rate, positive results after conducting 100 tests, was 4.6 per cent on Tuesday . There were 1,44,999 tests conducted between February 21 and February 28, with an average of 20,714 tests per day.


There were two deaths in Mumbai, one of them had comorbidities and both were above 60 years of age. At least 903 patients recovered and were discharged in the city and the recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. There are 9,633 active patients in the city. 


The number of cases in MMR including Mumbai was 1,649. Thane (193), Navi Mumbai (136), and Kalyan-Dombivli (159) have been reporting more or less the same number of cases through last week. There were six deaths in the MMR excluding Mumbai. 

Amravati (483), Pune Circle (703), and Nagpur (809) registered higher cases than the previous day. Out of 54 deaths recorded in the state, 11 were  in the Akola circle which includes Amravati, seven each in Pune and Nagpur circles and 9 in Nashik circle.

The cumulative number of cases in the state is 21.69 lakh and the recovery rate of the state is down to 94 per cent after a month.
