Mumbai saw a marginal rise in new cases and test positivity rate on Friday. The Covid-19 fatalities remained almost the same compared to Thursday. Data shared by the BMC showed that the city saw 762 new infections with a TPR of 2.5 per cent, while the Coronavirus claimed 19 lives during the day. Daily infections for Maharashtra were below 10,000.


After recording the lowest daily tally in the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in infections earlier last week though the numbers remained below the 1000 mark. 


It was on June 6, when TPR dipped below 3 for the first time in the second wave. After a record high of 11,163 cases on April 4, the daily Covid-19 has steadily moved south. On May 5, the city’s TPR stood at 10.9 per cent.

Mumbai’s doubling rate remains at 734 days. The average growth rate of cases between June 11 and June 17 was 0.9 per cent.

During the day, the contagious disease killed 19 people. 

Of the fatalities in the city, 14 patients were comorbid. While 8 deaths were in the age group of 60+,  the remaining victims were in the 40-60 age group. On June 8, the city had reported single digit fatalities, for the first time in the second wave.

The caseload in the city has risen to 7,19,941 and death toll to 15,266.

During Friday, 684 people were discharged. The city’s recovery rate stands at 95 per cent. 

Maharashtra saw a dip in new cases on Friday as the figure dipped 9,798. At 198, deaths dropped too.  

Maharashtra’s case fatality rate has slowly risen to 1.96 per cent. 

With the discharge of 14,347 patients, the state’s active caseload remains at 1.34 lakh.  

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region, including Mumbai, reported 2,051 cases, a slight dip over the previous day. In Palghar, 186 contracted the virus, while 426 tested positive in Raiga, topping MMR. In Mumbai’s vicinity, Thane reported 91 new cases, Kalyan-Dombivli saw 80 and Navi Mumbai recorded 102 fresh infections. 

Other than Mumbai, 33 people died of Covid-19 in MMR. Palghar reported 18 deaths, while Raigad and Panvel reported 8 and 1 fatalities respectively.

With 30,447 samples being examined in the last 24 hours, the number of coronavirus tests conducted in Mumbai so far reached 67,53,666. 

The city has 18 containment zones and 85 sealed buildings.
