Murder case: ‘MBBS girl, accused met twice before murder’

The 22-year-old MBBS student of JJ Medical College, who was allegedly killed at Bandstand by accused Mithu Singh, had met him twice in October 2021, a month before the alleged incident at his hotel Meeth’s Kitchen at Bandstand. She had casually chatted with him while having food there.

The Crime Branch now suspects that on November 29, 2021, when she was meeting him for the third time, she trusted him and was comfortable talking to him till late at night. But Singh tried to take advantage of the situation, which led to the scuffle between them. The sexual assault is the only prima facie reason that she was killed.

The accused Singh and his friend Abdul Jabbar Ansari were produced on Saturday before the Killa court. The Crime Branch has now added Section 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence) and 34 (common intention) of IPC, and are now probing the motive behind her killing. The public prosecutor MS Chaudhary told court that some significant development had taken place on January 20. Stating that he can’t disclose the information in an open court, he produced a diary before the court to read and sought a five-day custody.

Meanwhile, the defence lawyer Adv Harshman Chavan, appearing for both the accused, made serious allegations of police torture and sought footage from CCTV camera of unit nine of Mumbai Crime Branch. “They have been torturing every member of the family, including minor children. Ansari’s daughter even missed her Class V final exams,” Chavan told the court. However, when the court asked both the accused if they have any complaint against police, the duo denied. The court has extended their custody till January 25.
