Mumbai: 10 per cent water cut in Bandra, Khar from Feb 27

Water supply in some areas of Bandra and Khar West (H-West ward) will be affected from Tuesday, February 27 to Monday March 11, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has informed. 


The BMC's water department is carrying out repair and rehabilitation works of the old water channel of the Pali Hill reservoir, which will cause low water supply and there will be 10 percent water cut.

The areas which will face 10 percent water cut includes Gazdar Bandh, Dilip Kumar zone, Pali Mala zone, Union Park zone (Khar west), Dandpada, Kantwadi, Sherli Rajan and some areas of Bandra West, BMC has informed. 

After Monday, March 11, full water supply will be resumed in the said areas of H-West ward.

This month, from February 16 to 21 too water supply in H-West ward was affected as the BMC was fixing the 600 mm diameter value at its Pali Hill reservoir. 

Meanwhile, the BMC is still waiting for the report from IIT on structural stability for its Malabar Hill reservoir. Three members of the committee who are the residents of Malabar Hill have already submitted their part of the report in the first week of January, stating no need for demolition. The report was expected within a month of the inspection, completed on December 18, 2023.

The BMC had planned to demolish and reconstruct the 143-year-old reservoir that supplies water to south Mumbai.

On the other hand, the BMC could announce water cuts in Mumbai is coming days as the water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to the city is dipping. Reportedly, earlier this month, the water stock in the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai was around 49 percent, the lowest is last three years.

In the view of the city could face harsh summer this year too, water cut in Mumbai is been considered.
