Three pedestrians sustained injuries after a speeding vehicle dashed them on Tuesday evening between 7.15 pm to 7.30 pm in Mumbai's Fort area. An 80-year-old man was behind the wheel at the time of the incident. The driver was driving an automatic car.

According to the preliminary information received, the driver, Dilip Chatwani, a Mahim resident was crossing the CSMT junction from GPO road towards BMC headquarters. Upon crossing the signal, he accelerated the car's speed and dashed into a BEST bus and later into four pedestrians standing in front of the McDonald's outlet there.

“The driver was speeding and got confused after the dash and knocked down the pedestrians. They have been rushed to St George’s Hospital, and three persons have been admitted to ICU," said DCP (Zone 1) Dr Pravin Mundhe.

The driver has been taken for medical tests to ascertain whether he was inebriated.
