Express concern that BMC’s mismanagement of water supply will upset voters ahead of the civic elections to be held next year

With the civic elections to be held next year, corporators across party lines seem to be worried about the improper distribution of water in the city, as many parts face shortage. All the standing committee members unanimously adjourned the meeting on Tuesday over what they call ‘unfair’ distribution of water at the time of festivities. What they are concerned of is that the BMC’s mismanagement of water supply would upset the voters.

Opposition leader Ravi Raja raised the issue of water shortage in F North ward and how one water department staff’s transfer was affecting the supply in the entire region. Raja said, “The water department’s employees have written a letter stating that the transfer should not have been done as it will majorly affect the water supply. The authorities should take serious action in such cases.”
Meanwhile, the L ward corporators spoke about their inability to provide their voters with proper water supply for the last three months. Further, the E ward’s water department doesn’t have any staff to maintain smooth supply, complained the corporators. Rais Shaikh, Samajwadi Party group leader, alleged that the department’s additional municipal commissioner has many other important departments under him and hence water supply was getting affected.
All the corporators unanimously complained about the inability of maintaining and running the Hydraulic Engineering department smoothly, which in turn was affecting water supply. Rakhi Jadhav, NCP group leader, said, “Ahead of the elections, the administration is creating trouble for the corporators and citizens as well. All our efforts will go to waste if this continues.” However, Additional Municipal Commissioner, Sanjeev Kumar, who attended the meeting on behalf of the administration, said, “We will provide details about all the queries raised by the corporators.”
