The officer identified as API Bhushan Pawar, was posted at APMC police station for the past one and half years. “He was on sick leave due to chest pain and had come to the police station on Sunday. He went to the restroom and then shot himself in the chest using the service revolver,” DCP Shivraj Patil of Navi Mumbai police said. According to the police, the incident took place between 11 am and 11.30 am. After hearing the gun shot, some of the police officials rushed into the restroom and found Pawar in a pool of blood. He was taken to MGM hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The police have not found a suicide note from him but initial probe suggests that he was in depression due to some personal issues. “There is no suicide note but we have found that he last spoke to his wife who is in Pune, and then shot himself. We will record the statement of his family to ascertain why he took the extreme step. He was a very sincere officer and has been behind good crime detection cases,” Patil added.
